Costa Rica Sea Turtle Conservation:

The conservation of turtles in this area started in 1991. Today, United Planet's partner organziation also helps to protect a large diversity of sea fauna and reptiles like the green iguana. The turtles (including the Lora, Baula, Carey and Del Pacifico species) are all in danger of extinction. The nesting season is open from July to December. United Planet's partner organization also organizes the Turtle Festival in the Pacific, an interesting and fun activity!

Volunteer activities include: Making signs for the beach; building and guarding the hatcheries; patrolling and collecting data; transferring the eggs to the hatcheries; cleaning nests; and helping in the freeing of new born turtles.

United Planet volunteers are offered pre-departure training and materials, which include cultural adjustment tools and other tips to help you adjust to your new surroundings.
