Description:
Volunteer for underprivileged children, poor, orphaned and sick children in Nepal. Work with local people, to see and experience Nepal, its charm but also the problems and difficulties that face the young and poor. The volunteer opportunities suit all levels of experience and ages. Our volunteers work with local staff, our local representatives, other volunteers or alone. Volunteers are picked up at the airport and get a one-day orientation in Kathmandu, with language, culture and teach training. Volunteers can stay in a the volunteer house in Kathmandu, or at the placement. These Nepali projects are mostly in the Kathmandu area and valley. CNN recommends 8 volunteer organizations world wide in their Be the Change Initiative. Open Mind Projects is one.
Highlights:
* Live with a host family, our local partner staff. Immerse yourself in local life and culture. * Live with other volunteers in the volunteer house, make international friends while helping local ones. * Stay in a village, learn the life of Nepali farmers. * Teach at a small village school, in the mountains. * Combine a volunteer placement in one country with another; Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Nepal.
Qualifications:
- Volunteers who come to teach should speak good English and if possible have basic computer skills. No prior teaching experience is required. - Volunteers teaching computers should have some knowledge of the subject. - Important volunteer qualities are initiative, independence, energy, patience and an open mind.

Schools and other learning/youth institutions in developing nations are understaffed and under resources. New information technology and international volunteers help offset this advantage.
