Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: 1st and 3rd Monday of each month - all year
Description:
Our English teaching program benefits local Ugandan children and orphans by teaching them the useful language of English. The demand for English-speaking Ugandans is becoming more prominent with all the various tourist attractions currently luring tourists to this warm, welcoming country. Improving these children's conversational English makes for a better future as well as helping them to compete and participate in the global market. As a volunteer English-teacher, you will only be teaching for 2-3 hours a day, six days a week. There are already English teachers existing in the schools, however, volunteers offer much-needed assistance; including presenting and applying different teaching methods, giving advice on solving communication barriers and offering appropriate curriculum for the classroom.
Highlights:
Responsibilities include teaching English in either primary or secondary schools. Additionally, some of the local orphanages run their own schools, requiring that volunteers also teach in these programs. Local schools provide all curriculum and teaching materials. Volunteers will work alongside an already-existing teacher reporting to the schools' respective headmasters.
Qualifications:
There are no specific qualifications required to join this English-teaching project. However, IFRE does expect participants to be native English-speakers who are enthusiastic to teach children. Previous teaching experience and/or a degree in English is preferred but not required.

Institute For Field Research Expeditions's Mission Statement: The mission of our volunteer abroad program is to offer meaningful volunteer abroad opportunities for volunteers and to seek sustainable solutions for education, health, conservation, and development issues through international volunteering. We hope to achieve this goal by offering community orientated volunteer programs where the efforts of our volunteers go directly to the poor people and their communities.
Many grass-root organizations working in developing countries are poor in resources. These organizations are doing a commendable job to address development, education, health, and conservation issues by launching a variety of programs but these organizations are in a great need of help and support. IFRE promotes these local organizations by making donations and sending volunteers.
