Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: All Year Round
Description:
AIDS has greatly increased the number of orphans in Uganda . These children are left in poverty and unbearable conditions without parents to care for them. Volunteers are needed in our orphanage projects to teach basic English and other subjects (Math and Science), help in organizing activities for the children, and provide both care and much-needed companionship. Volunteer in Orphanage project in Uganda will also help the children prepare for school by assisting them with their homework and ensuring that they complete their assignments/lessons. Currently, IFRE works with more than three local orphanages within Kampala .
Highlights:
Some of your volunteer responsibilities include tutoring (mostly teaching English) to the children at the orphanage where they are home-schooled and assisting/educating them in areas of personal hygiene (i.e. brushing, flossing their teeth). In the afternoons/evenings, you will organize activities, games, sing-a-longs and dances as well as other creativity-based activities to teach the children. Volunteers will also help with homework and observe academic progress. You will be kept busy during the day when the children are in school by helping clean, cook as well as working in the garden.

Institute For Field Research Expeditions's Mission Statement: The mission of our volunteer abroad program is to offer meaningful volunteer abroad opportunities for volunteers and to seek sustainable solutions for education, health, conservation, and development issues through international volunteering. We hope to achieve this goal by offering community orientated volunteer programs where the efforts of our volunteers go directly to the poor people and their communities.
Many grass-root organizations working in developing countries are poor in resources. These organizations are doing a commendable job to address development, education, health, and conservation issues by launching a variety of programs but these organizations are in a great need of help and support. IFRE promotes these local organizations by making donations and sending volunteers.
