Orphange Project in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: All Year Round
Description:
In Sri Lanka , IFRE collaborates with local orphanages and children support organizations aiming to support displaced, abandoned, and abused children. This project allows volunteers to leave a positive mark by touching the lives of orphans. In this volunteer project in Sri Lanka , participants can contribute their invaluable time living with the orphaned children as a part of their family. Not only do these unfortunate children need love, care and attention, but the poorly-understaffed orphanage centers need the willing, helping hands of volunteers as well.
Highlights:
As a volunteer in the orphanage project in Sri Lanka , you will teach English (3-4 hours a day) in the orphanage or school (when the orphaned children attend schools during the day). You will help children to stay clean by helping them in brushing teeth, shower - addressing issues of personal hygiene. In your free time (usually in the evening), volunteers can organize games, drawing, singing, dancing, and other creative educational and extra-curricular activities. In the evening time, volunteers help children with their homework as well as monitor academic progress, and ensuring children complete the next day's homework. If volunteers do not wish to teach in school during day time, they can offer care for the children remaining in the orphanage (who can not go to school). Volunteers are also expected to assist in dressing-up of children, distributing food, helping in the kitchen, maintaining the garden, and assisting in assorted, administrative work.
Qualifications:
There are no specific qualifications needed to join the volunteer orphanage projects in Sri Lanka. However, volunteers are expected to be flexible and patience as well as possess an unwavering passion and love for orphans.

Institute For Field Research Expeditions's Mission Statement: The mission of our volunteer abroad program is to offer meaningful volunteer abroad opportunities for volunteers and to seek sustainable solutions for education, health, conservation, and development issues through international volunteering. We hope to achieve this goal by offering community orientated volunteer programs where the efforts of our volunteers go directly to the poor people and their communities.
Many grass-root organizations working in developing countries are poor in resources. These organizations are doing a commendable job to address development, education, health, and conservation issues by launching a variety of programs but these organizations are in a great need of help and support. IFRE promotes these local organizations by making donations and sending volunteers.
