Teach in Community Center in Costa Rica

Highlights: As a volunteer in the community center project in Atenas, you will be assisting with English classes for children or adults. The library project would be teaching English or crafts projects to small children once a week. Assisting with the projects of the cultural committee would include creating brochures and flyers, distributing information, and organizing activities in the community.

Qualifications: To work directly in the community center, there are no qualifications required, but to work with the library and the cultural committee, at least an intermediate level of Spanish would be required. The length of time is the most important as many of the activities occur once a week and so it takes several weeks to really be able to contribute significantly. Volunteers are expected to be reliable, flexible, and patient.

Institute For Field Research Expeditions's Mission Statement: The mission of our volunteer abroad program is to offer meaningful volunteer abroad opportunities for volunteers and to seek sustainable solutions for education, health, conservation, and development issues through international volunteering. We hope to achieve this goal by offering community orientated volunteer programs where the efforts of our volunteers go directly to the poor people and their communities. Many grass-root organizations working in developing countries are poor in resources. These organizations are doing a commendable job to address development, education, health, and conservation issues by launching a variety of programs but these organizations are in a great need of help and support. IFRE promotes these local organizations by making donations and sending volunteers.

Year Founded: 2005
