English Teaching in Cambodia
Cambodia
Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Description:
There is presently a very high demand for English-speaking Cambodians. Many Cambodian citizens are living in poverty and cannot afford to send their children to expensive, private boarding schools where English is taught. IFRE's volunteer program in Cambodia collaborates with local schools to offer free English education (mostly conversational English) to local children. By working in an English-teaching program in Cambodia , you are providing vital English-education to poor children ultimately improving their chances for a brighter future. Depending upon your personal skills and interest, you can teach English in an orphanage, at a public school, at a university, or within various local organizations running an English-teaching program. Many schools (especially within the countryside) are often extremely honored to welcome a foreign volunteer and do so with the warmest reception. Volunteers are often so welcomed that they become a part of their host family's (and communities) daily activities and rituals.
Highlights:
Volunteers will primarily work as English-teachers/instructors either in public and/or private schools. Depending upon the need, volunteers may also be asked to assist in other extracurricular activities such as sports, games, etc. Some of the duties required of volunteers include: * Teaching English in public schools, orphanages or universities * Assisting with other creative, extracurricular activities (i.e. games, drawing, singing, dancing, etc.) * Taking the students on educational tours/field trips (occasionally) * Helping the students with their homework, monitoring their academic progress * Assisting in other school-related activities or programs designed for the students

Institute For Field Research Expeditions's Mission Statement: The mission of our volunteer abroad program is to offer meaningful volunteer abroad opportunities for volunteers and to seek sustainable solutions for education, health, conservation, and development issues through international volunteering. We hope to achieve this goal by offering community orientated volunteer programs where the efforts of our volunteers go directly to the poor people and their communities.
Many grass-root organizations working in developing countries are poor in resources. These organizations are doing a commendable job to address development, education, health, and conservation issues by launching a variety of programs but these organizations are in a great need of help and support. IFRE promotes these local organizations by making donations and sending volunteers.
