Orphanage in Uganda
Uganda
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: All Year Round
Description:
Numerous deaths resulting from AIDS have caused a dramatic increase in orphans in the country of Uganda. Parents dying of AIDS often leave a legacy in the form of an epidemic resulting in HIV-positive/AIDS-infected children coming into a hunger-stricken world where their parents usually die before they can care for their own children. Global Crossroad's partner orphanages in Uganda provide not only housing for these children, but also a chance at an education and hope for the future.
Highlights:
This orphanage-based volunteer project in Uganda offers these children the support and devotion they deserve. Volunteers can perform a variety of much-needed services such as teaching Basic English and other subjects (i.e. math and science) to these children in need of care, compassion and an education. As a volunteer, participants can also help in organizing other extracurricular activities such as tours, games, art-related activities, singing, dancing, and other activities enjoyed by the children simultaneously learning something of value in the process. Volunteers are also encouraged to help the children prepare for school assisting them with their homework and lessons for the following days' classes.
