Teaching English in Togo
Togo
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: All Year Round
Description:
Even through Togo is a French-speaking country, English education is in high demand. In the Teaching English in Togo project, volunteers teach English classes in private, public, or informal schools or work as an assistant to English teachers. Responsibilities of volunteer English teachers include teaching basic English, mainly conversational. French is the official language of Togo, but children speak a little English.
Highlights:
Local teachers and schools are happy to support their volunteer teachers with lesson plans and teaching curriculum. When teaching in Togo, most schools provide volunteers a Togo Teaching Guide book to help prepare for daily teaching. Volunteers can also bring useful teaching materials such as picture books, flash cards, art supplies, and songs. Classes are generally in session five days a week. Togo has 3 academic terms a year: September-December, January-March and April-July, so a minimum commitment of 2 months is required to volunteer for the Teaching English in Togo project. By teaching English in Togo, you will not only be helping young Togolese children build their future but also will be making a long-lasting impact that will benefit the entire community.
