Orphange in Philippines
Philippines
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: All Year Round
Description:
Global Crossroad places volunteers in a number of orphanages around the city and in surrounding towns. Each orphanage houses between 45 and 100 or more abandoned and unwanted children--all from poor families; many suffer from malnutrition or neglect when they arrive. These children thrive on the attention and love our volunteers can offer them. These children only have a limited staff to care for them. The caregivers at the orphanages are appreciative of the extra help our volunteers can offer them. Volunteers are free to tutor the children, organize arts and crafts or sports activities, and help out with basic chores such as feeding the children and folding laundry. This is a meaningful way to learn first hand the hardship most children in the world face, and then to give your compassion and hope to children growing up in a Third World country.
Highlights:
As a volunteer, you don't necessarily need care-giving experience. All we ask is that you come with energy, enthusiasm, an open mind, and an open heart. You can help the busy orphanage staff by organizing activities such as sports, educational exercises, or arts and crafts. The Philippine orphanages have few resources; therefore, it helps if you can bring educational items, art supplies, or tapes with children's songs.
