Argentina
Term: Throughout the year
Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks, 3-6 months and 7-12 months
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Description:
For socially aware and concerned individuals, Fundacion AFOS offers safe and affordable volunteer, internship and Spanish study programs in the beautiful city of Cordoba, Argentina. Placements are customized to the unique skills and interests of each participant and include the opportunity for full immersion in the life, culture and language of Argentina. Options include working in an orphanage, school, elderly home, or intellectual project to name just a few. Fundacion AFOS offers four basic programs: Volunteering (2 weeks to 1 year): Designed for individuals who would like to contribute to one of the many projects carried out by Fundación AFOS and its local NGO partners, volunteer opportunities include working in such settings as an orphanage, school, elderly home, or intellectual project to name just a few. Internships (1 month to 1 year): Designed for foreign students who wish to put their theoretical knowledge into practice in the wide variety of office or field projects carried out by Fundación AFOS and its local NGO partners, internship areas include education, children and youth issues, micro-business, fair trade, human rights, poverty reduction, employment, health, the disabled, public policy, women's rights, and more. Fundacion AFOS carefully plans and customizes each participant's program based on length of stay, lodging preferences, interests, experience, language level, other services requested, etc. in order to maximize both satisfaction and impact while here. Intensive Spanish Courses: Through an agreement with a local school specializing in Spanish for foreigners, we can provide intensive language courses of 2 to 4 hours/day, 5 days per week - maximum 6 students per class- based on each participant's needs. Responsible tourism: We are organizing group trips (8 to 12 people) of 15-21 days visiting Buenos Aires, Cordoba and its mountains, Misiones and the Iguazu waterfalls, Paraguay and Brazil. This program includes carefully organized visits and activities that allow the traveler to meet real locals in their natural environment and to see life as it truly is, not as a traditional short holiday would make it appear. Lodging: Participants generally stay in our well kept house in the very quiet and safe middle class residential neighborhood which is less than 10 minutes walk to downtown and to the student district. This situation allows our participants to make friends fast, to immerse more easily in the local culture and to be in the area where most students prefer to stay. The home accommodates guests in 2 beds per room and we can also arrange a private room or other accommodations for some additional cost. Health Insurance: You must have health insurance during your stay with us. We can provide inexpensive local health insurance for medical and dental consultations, hospitalization and surgeries or you can choose to purchase coverage at home.
Highlights:
Argentina is a land of friendly people, amazing history, incredible scenery and natural resources, and a uniquely warm blend of South American and European culture. Modern Cordoba in particular is a veritable paradise for visitors with its combination of well-preserved history, the natural beauty of the surrounding Sierras, few international tourists, and a lack of serious crime. Unfortunately, since the economic collapse, Argentina is also a country suffering from great poverty and social displacement. For many of the people who live here, especially the young, disadvantaged, or disabled, life is a daily struggle. Fundacion AFOS provides critical management, financial and volunteer assistance to support the small to mid-sized NGOs that are the backbone of the social safety net providing the lifeline for these vulnerable populations. Explore the cultural and natural beauty of Argentina while helping to improve the lives of its people in a challenging, rewarding and safe environment. Participate in a life changing experience!
