Volunteer with SAIDIA
Tanzania
Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: All year round (min. 2 weeks)
Description:
The experience is tailored to YOU! We always do our best to provide confirmed volunteers with as detailed an itinerary as possible of the work they shall be doing after arriving. For maximum volunteer satisfaction, it is important for volunteers to tell us which projects they would like to work in. We strongly believe that in order to help communities, it is not necessary to initiate new projects. For this reason, when you volunteer with SAIDIA, you shall either be placed in one of our Partner Programs outside the auspices of SAIDIA or, for the more free-spirited, you could be placed in a community where it would be left to you to either find a conducive way to assist them in their greatest areas of need, or enhance projects such as community-run cooperatives that are already active but struggling. One of the benefits of volunteering with us is that it would provide more structure. Also, with both SAIDIA and its partner organisations striving to reach the same objective, it is certain that more can be achieved in a shorter space of time, and a larger number of people can be reached. Each of our partners were chosen on merit, but they all share similar financial and personnel constraints. As a volunteer, you would inject the necessary energy and work with us to identify what must be done in each activity. At SAIDIA, we encourage all volunteers to fundraise beyond their programme fee. We do so because many good initiatives lack resources. Together, the volunteer, the partner organisation and SAIDIA, work together to ensure that the use of any money raised is an informed participatory process that focuses on long-term gains and overall sustainability. This is the integral part of all our volunteering packages. This is how SAIDIA and our volunteers directly support positive initiatives at a grassroots community level.
Highlights:
SAIDIA Tanzania Organisation offers an unforgettably inspirational volunteering experience. Volunteers will gain insight into the vibrant culture of Tanzania, whilst making a meaningful contribution to the community. Volunteering will change your perspective on life and bring new value to everyday norms. We are based in the beautiful city of Mwanza in Northern Tanzania. The sunset over Lake Victoria casts a glow upon the majestic rocks that gave Mwanza its nickname "Rock City." Tanzania is the biggest (land area) among the East African countries and has a spectacular landscape. This consists mainly of three physiographic regions: the Islands and the coastal plains to the east; the inland saucer-shaped plateau; and the highlands. The Great Rift Valley that runs from north east of Africa through central Tanzania is another landmark that adds to the scenic view of the country. The country has a large concentration of wild animals. It also has pristine sandy beaches and Africa's highest and snow-capped mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro. Tanzania is home to the world famous National Parks (Serengeti National Park is only 2hrs from Mwanza!!) and Game Reserves of: Ngorongoro Crater, Selous Game Reserve, Gombe Stream, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Mikumi, Arusha, Ruaha, Saadani, Udzungwa Mountains, and Mkomazi Game Reserve.
Qualifications:
Volunteers do not have to have any specific qualifications in order to volunteer with SAIDIA. Our Organisation operates by matching the skills and interests of potential volunteers to the needs in the community, thus ensuring a greater level of success. We DO ask volunteers to list any qualifications they may have, but this is only done so that we can ensure that volunteers are well-matched with their corresponding community initiative. At SAIDIA we believe that anybody has what it takes to affect positive change through their actions and we strive to ensure that whilst the volunteer enjoys the experience, the community genuinely benefits from their presence.
