India
Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks and 3-6 months
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: Jan-Apr 2009
Description:
Teachers Needed ! These sports camps are an ideal opportunity for any sports enthusiasts to be a resident sports coach/teacher at a hill station school set high up in the western ghat mountain ranges for 4/6/8 weeks. Even if you've never formally taught/coached before, you can assist the local sports teachers in their day to day work at the school. The school has children ranging from Upper primary to High school. You could help conduct camps in any sports discipline from football, cricket, volley ball, badminton, gymnastics, Aerobics to maybe something like rugby, pickle ball or bocce ball which probably none of the kids have ever played yet alone heard off. In exchange they may teach you the exciting & physically challenging Indian sport of Khabaddi? Do you think you can tackle this exciting opportunity/challenge? Even if you've never formally taught sports, you can assist the local teachers in your spare time at the school. You don't need to know the local language (English is the medium of teaching), or the methods of the local school system. All you need is enthusiasm, resourcefulness and a desire to share your knowledge. Volunteers can also host discussions about their homelands, including culture, history, lifestyles, sports and school systems. You'll usually teach 4-5 hours a day, Monday through Friday, and the remaining time to prepare for classes. The rest of the day is for free time. Weekends can usually be used to travel and experience the culture, sights, history, tradition, temples and the many beautiful beaches of Kerala.
