Volunteer Travel to Teach Sport to Children in Zambia
Zambia
Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: Visit our website for upcoming start dates
Description:
The Rural Program for Education and Sport (ROPES) in Zambia uses sport and physical activities to engage rural children, especially girls, in life skills education that also integrates HIV/AIDS and Sexual and Reproductive Health Education. As one of the poorest nations in Africa, Zambia's cultural practices often lead children and young adults to expose themselves to risky sexual practices. Adventurous volunteers are needed, who work independently and enjoy teaching sports to children (though some training will be given upon arrival). Working on this program you will enhance your global awareness; further develop your leadership skills, learn coaching and teaching skills; and gain practical experience which will last you a lifetime. Volunteer in Zambia and help change some young peoples lives for ever in this wonderful country. How this program makes a difference: Sport and physical activity provide physical, social, and mental benefits, thereby improving children's productivity and social well-being. Sport can also be used as a communication tool to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent youths from harmful habits such as tobacco and drug use. In Zambia sport is being used to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS and to target vulnerable groups such as orphans and out-of-school youths. Sport can tackle factors that contribute to the spread of HIV/AIDS by providing knowledge, life skills, access to services, and safe and supportive environments.
