Support the earthquake relief and recovery efforts in Indonesia

  Indonesia
  • All Other Areas:
  • Yogyakarta

Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: December 20 - January 3

Description: The Kemudo village is located in the Klaten regency. The area was struck by a massive earthquake on May 27, 2006. Seven people were found dead, while hundreds of others were injured. About 85% of the houses collapsed and many other were seriously damaged. Since the day after the quake, international volunteer groups have been involved in relieving the pain of the villagers through the implementation of relief actions (sending food supplies and medicines and organizing free medical assistance), providing assistance to local villages and inhabitants, while promoting international solidarity and intercultural encounter. In this sense, a new group of international volunteers will get involved both in renovating/reconstructing the area and supplying education to the local children.

The volunteers will do small renovation works, will paint the local school and will be involved in educational activities with the children (mainly teaching English and basic hygiene practices).

Kemudo Village is located in Klaten regency, 25 km east of Yogyakarta City and 95 km south east of Semarang.

There is an extra fee of 160 Euros for participation in this project, intended to support the local host.
