Description:
Assisting in providing transportation services for the athletes, officials, judges, and journalists for this event- this will be the primary task for interested volunteers. In principle, volunteers should work one shift (no more than 8 hours) each day. Reasonable work times and shifts for special posts will be set according to the specific situation. During the games, some 500 service stations will be set up in Beijing's districts and counties and 400,000 volunteers for urban services will be needed to work for the members of the Olympic family, spectators, tourists as well as the ordinary citizens in such areas as information, emergency response and translation. The registration process starts now and will end in June 2008. The recruitment procedure includes the steps of registration, review, examination, background check and the acceptance notice, whose issue will end in July 2008.
Highlights:
The volunteers for the Beijing Olympic Volunteer Program will serve other people, the society, and the Olympic Games from now until 2008 throughout the preparation and holding of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. They will operate on the basis of free will, in the form of volunteer service and within the system of the Beijing Olympic Volunteer Program. They include "Towards Olympics" volunteers, Olympics Games-time volunteers, Paralympic Games-time volunteers, BOCOG Pre-games volunteers, City volunteers and Society volunteers. Volunteers will receive: A. Work security: 1. Accreditation card 2. Uniform and Necessary Equipment 3. Meals during service hours 4. Free public transport services in designated areas within the city area; 5. Personal Accident Insurance during the period of work B. Awards and incentives: 1. Volunteer service certificates and badges will be provided to the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games Games-time volunteers 2. Excellent volunteers, teams and organizations will be granted honorary titles 3. Games-time volunteers will obtain Olympic and Paralympic souvenirs based on their service hours and service effect 4. Commemorative facilities will be set up for volunteers after Olympic and Paralympic
Qualifications:
Volunteers for the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games are accredited personnel recruited and managed by BOCOG, who take proper responsibilities, work at the time and in the position designated by BOCOG in service to the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics Games without payment. Basic Requirements include: 1) Voluntary to serve the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic games; 2) Born prior to (but including) June 30, 1990, and in good health; 3) Abide by China's laws and regulations; 4) Able to participate in the pre-Games trainings and related activities; 5) Able to serve for more than seven days running during the Olympic and Paralympic Games; 6) Native Chinese speakers should be able to communicate in foreign language(s), and applicants whose first language is not Chinese should be able to engage in conversation in Chinese; 7) Possess professional knowledge and skills necessary for the positions.
Cost Include Description:
Volunteers from outside the host and co-host cities need to bear the expenses for round-trip transportation from their place of residence to the host city as well as their accommodation during their period of volunteer service.

Typical Volunteer: Volunteers will have plenty of knowledge about volunteering requirements and standards related to voluntary services before they start working. This is a prerequisite for good performance. Volunteers have to be honest and dedicated, punctual and law- abiding, warm-hearted and persistent, united and friendly, and work without seeking individual benefits. Volunteers must all meet certain service standards.

The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad's Mission Statement: The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad's (BOCOG) general goal is to host high-level Olympic Games and high-level Olympics with distinguishing features, to realize the strategic concepts of 'New Beijing, Great Olympics' and to leave a unique legacy for China and the sports world.
