Teaching English to Buddhist Monks

Description: Volunteers will be teaching English Language to Buddhist Monks at the monasteries. There is no specific curriculum for teaching that has been set up; volunteer will help them with focusing to enhance English speaking knowledge of monks. Most of the monks have communicative English language with moderate pronunciation and accent.

Most of the monks are between 10 to 16 years of age, depending on monasteries size it varies numbers of learners 15 to 70. Volunteers teach them 1 to 3 hours a day five days a week. The monasteries locations are situated in rural, urban and semi urban settings. We accept application for one week to three months and possibly extend more.

We accept English speaking volunteers, although all discipline volunteers do not have to be native English speaking. But as an English Language Instructor they must have a basic knowledge about grammar. We also provide an intensive English Language Instructor Course from professional, experienced resource persons as per length of committed duration. Further more we provide materials such as audio, video cassettes books, flash cards, etc.

Teaching English to Buddhist Monks

Qualifications:
- Minimum age 18 yrs
- You do not need any formal teacher training or experience to participate, but whatever experience you do have will be taken into account when arranging your day-to-day activities.
- A good command of oral and written English

Minimum Education: High School

Cost Include Description:

1. Meal and accommodation (Nepali standard) with host family during placement and training.
2. Transportation (pick up and drop off to/from airport and placement)
3. Intensive training and orientation appropriate to the length of your stay
4. Stationeries during training and volunteering
5. Supervision
6. First day sight seeing in Kathmandu

The fee does not cover
- Insurance (medical, travel, personal belongings)
