Description:
We provide positions to teach math, science, art, dance, English, and sports in elementary and high schools in several native communities in Ecuador. You will live with a native family and teach in a nearby community. FEVI projects in the Andean region, Pichincha province, very close to Quito LUMBISI FEVI/01: FEVI Child Care Center.Pre school for 40 kids ages two to five. The center is located in Lumbisi, native community very close to Quito. Volunteers assist the teachers in their daily education and entertainment activities for the kids. Volunteers will also help the community mothers in preparing and serving lunch to the little kids. The center is open from 8 a.m. till 12 noon. FEVI/02: Pedro Echeverria Technical School. Public high school for boys and girls in Lumbisi, native community very close to Quito. College Prep curriculum and also carpentry, mechanics, bakery workshops. The center is located in Lumbisi, native community very close to Quito. Volunteers will assist teachers in their daily educational activities. The school is open from 7 a.m. till 1 p.m. FEVI/03: Lumbisi Organic Gardens. FEVI has started this project for the production of fresh vegetables for the kids and the elderly people in the community. Volunteers will maintain the gardens, pick up products and deliver them to FEVI child care center and the elderly people lunch room in the Lumbisi Community, very close to Quito. Flexible work hours. FEVI/04: Lumbisi elderly people center. Community lunch room for elderly people in the Lumbisi community, very close to Quito. Volunteers will help prepare and serve food to the elderly. Volunteers will help disabled elderly in their daily walks to the center. Volunteers will also help in FEVI´s organic garden to pick up fresh vegetables for the elderly. Volunteers will organize activities and games for the elderly. The elderly people lunch room is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. FEVI/05: FEVI Learning Center. Afternoon school for kids 6 to 15 years old. Kids come to our center for help with English lessons, homework, Math, Arth, Sports. Volunteers run the center and design activities for about 40 kids. FEVI/06: Reconstruction of ancient, traditional homes. We will recover these very old traditional homes. Most of them belong to elderly people who are still living there. The homes are in very poor living conditions. Volunteers will paint and provide better basic services for these ancient homes benefiting elderly people in the community. CUMBAYA FEVI/06: Rotary Club Medical Center. Community health center for low income people.The center also provides adult education classes on several areas. The healthcenter is located in Cumbaya, native community near Quito. Volunteers will help nurses and doctors and will also help in adult education classes like how to use computers, gardening, sewing, bakery, English. Schedule is flexible, about 5 hours per day. FEVI/07: Escuela Publica Primaria Antonio Aguilar. Public elementary school for 500 kids. Open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers help teachers with Math, Music, Sports, Sciences, English. FEVI/08: Colegio Nacional Cumbaya. Public High School for 1000 students. Volunteers help with English classes, Art, Sports, Sciences, Math. The school is open in three sessions, morning, afternoon and night session. TUMBACO FEVI/09: Escuela Jose Velasco. Small elementary school from grades one to third. The school does a lot of artistic activities and also works with a small group of disable kids. The center is located in Tumbaco, native community very close to Quito. Volunteers will assist teachers with their daily classroom activities. FEVI/10: Teresa de Calcuta child care center. Learning and playing space for about 50 extremely low income kids. It is open from 8 a.m. till 4 p.m. volunteers the teachers taking care of the kids, playing with them, serving food to them. PALUGO FEVI/11: Child care center. Volunteer help teachers with care and education of little kids. Volunteers also help with agriculture and adults education activities. FEVI PROJECTS IN THE COAST OF ECUADOR FEVI/12: Puerto Quito traditional farm. Small, family farm producing bananas, chocolate, coffee. Opportunity to learn about biodiversity and natural medicine. The farm is located in the tropical forest, three hours bus ride from Quito. Volunteers may also assist teachers in the community public school. Volunteers live in Ligia´s farm. Work term is two weeks to three months. Fevi/13: Escuela Gonzalo Pizarro. Public elementary school for kids. The school teaches about 140 kids from very low income families. There are only three teachers for the whole school. The school is located in Esmeraldas province in the Pacific coast of Ecuador. Volunteers will assist teachers in their daily classroom activities. Volunteers will also help in health and nutrition campaigns. The school is open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers live in FEVI housing in Tonsupa, small town pretty close to the school.

Qualifications:
Must be 18 or older, like to work with youth, enthusiasm, and desire to help children of low income families. You can volunteer for one week up to one year. No Spanish language requirement.
Cost in US$: 350 USD for one week; 700 USD for 2 weeks; 1,000 USD for one month and 1,500 USD for 6 months

Typical Volunteer: We have a variety of volunteers that range from students recently graduated from high school to people in their mid 20s with a teaching degree to couples in their 40s or 50s. All volunteers must be enthusiastic to work with youth, like to have a great time, and make a difference.
