Description: This organization educates children and teenagers with Down syndrome. It also provides parents with valuable information about the range of abilities and talents their children can reach through the specialized education. Due to lack of funds, this NGO can´t afford to pay for special educators, speech therapists, occupational therapists, etc. Experts in these areas are greatly needed.

Highlights: Volunteers are needed to provide stimulation and encouragement to children with Down Syndrome while also assisting in provide specialized education programs designed to meet their unique needs.

Volunteers will also aid in teaching the parents of a Down Syndrome child how to make a concerted effort not to compare the developmental progress of a child with Down syndrome to the progress of other siblings or even to other children with Down Syndrome.

Qualifications: Volunteers with experience as special educators, speech therapists, occupational therapists are greatly needed.

Cost in US$: USD2,775 for 8 weeks; USD165 for each additional week

Typical Volunteer: We believe everyone can contribute by volunteering. Recent graduates from high school, college or university, professionals taking a career break, recent retirees, individuals or groups who are interested in a change and the chance to enrich their own life and the lives of others. If you are 18 years or older you can apply for any of the placements available. If you are from 16-18 years old you may apply for placements near our Volunteer Abroad Office and Residence, so that we are able to give you more support. Both students and professionals are needed for placements in all our countries.
