Description: The aim of this organization is to give aid and support to children from impoverished backgrounds living in and around the area. Bruce Peru is a private non-profit organization working to make education a reality for all children in Peru. They provide a caring and safe environment for children to grow to their fullest potential.

Many children do not attend school in Las Delicias due to: extreme poverty (even attending free school in Peru costs about US$110 a year), so they need volunteers to get as many children into school as possible, this involves persuading children and parents.

Highlights: Volunteers will join the trained social worker and a team of Peruvian staff to work at the project in the mornings every week day. Children will come for lessons and lunch, remaining at the centre until they are attending school regularly. Volunteers will work with the children to teach them, get involved in team working, participate in sport activities, etc.

Other tasks include teaching English to adults (evening hours),organise activities of a wide ranging nature, work in newly established schools in poor districts with children of varying ages, feed the students after classes, picking up new volunteers at the bus lines, dispensing travel moneys in the mornings for taxis, combis, etc. to the schools, and participating in organizational meetings with Bruce and other volunteers.

Qualifications: Volunteers must be able to cope with big groups of street children demanding a lot of attention and enthusiasm. You will have to be be part of a team, working together with Peruvian and International volunteers. Experience with kids an asset.
