Description:
The Natural Protected Areas Administration of the Natural Resources Institute (INRENA), part of the Ministry of Agriculture, is responsible for the administration and management of the protected areas system. Its policies are based on the Natural Protected Areas Law and related regulations. INRENA is represented throughout the country and has received recognition by the sectors involved in natural resource management and nature protection. Sandoval Park Station in Tambopata needs volunteers to teach the Park Rangers English, also to help them in their patrol in the reserve Area of Sandoval.
Highlights:
Volunteers will participate in a number of tasks, including, but not limited to: 1. Working in the office orienting travelers and hikers as they entered the jungle; that involve some paper work, observations and speeches. 2. Registering the entrance of local and foreign visitors in the Park Ranger Station. 3. Assisting in the monthly statistics of the number of visitors done to Sandoval Lake through Travel Agencies. 4. Informing visitors the basic rules to be respected of the Park Ranger Station, objectives and functions. 5. Teaching English to the Park Rangers, as they receive many tourists and communication can be difficult between them. Volunteers can also work going with the Park Rangers into the forest to do patrol job, and controlling the growing of exotic plants and doing reports that have then to be transferred to the Office in Puerto Maldonado. Those will experience can help in the design of a bridge which needs to be repaired on the main trail.
Qualifications:
Volunteers must have the flexibility to adapt to a totally new world as they will be living in the middle of the wild jungle. Puesto de Control Sandoval needs volunteers who want to contribute with their knowledge on biology, environmental sciences, etc. They would love volunteers who are willing share their knowledge with the local Park Rangers and the office of INRENA in Puerto Maldonado. People who can't live in the middle of nowhere without light, internet, PC, phone, etc or who are uncomfortable living with minimal amenities may have difficulty at this placement.

Cost Include Description:
Upon arrival in country our staff will pick you up at the airport and return you to our Orientation Center for a safety briefing and general country orientation. For this program you are required to complete one week of language training and orientation which is included in the cost of the program. At the end of that week, you will transfer to your placement to begin volunteering. Our staff are available to assist you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week should you require help of any kind.

Typical Volunteer: We believe everyone can contribute by volunteering. Recent graduates from high school, college or university, professionals taking a career break, recent retirees, individuals or groups who are interested in a change and the chance to enrich their own life and the lives of others. If you are 18 years or older you can apply for any of the placements available. If you are from 16-18 years old you may apply for placements near our Volunteer Abroad Office and Residence, so that we are able to give you more support. Both students and professionals are needed for placements in all our countries.
