Description: An ideal volunteer for this placement is someone who considers themselves a go getter. Someone who likes to shmooz, and can convince people of the cause and give more money would be great. Volunteers should be creative, and looking to help Porters develop long term sustainable income generation.

Experience in fundraising, grant proposal writing etc is an asset. Someone who won't take no for an answer may have a difficult time at this placement.

Highlights: Volunteers will assist in the fundraising department. As such, they will take part in many tasks, including, but not limited to:
1. Offering advice and helping evaluate current fundraising strategies.
2. Reviewing and improving grant proposals.
3. Actively seeking donations both domestically and internationally.
4. Helping with graphic design to develop a Calendar for fundraising purposes.
5. Maintaining their website.

Qualifications: Porters' Progress was formed to save the lives of Nepali mountain porters and their families. They run programs that focus upon keeping porters alive while on the trail and nourished at home. PP is run by and for mountain porters themselves which provides them with a lot of manpower, passion and knowledge about the porter industry, but not a lot of education or skills to make their hopes and ideas come to reality. Volunteers can work along side the local porters and volunteers to help put those ideas into action. With the help of many foreign volunteers PP has grown to be a successful and well known NGO. One of the greatest challenges facing Porters' Progress at the moment is funding. Someone with experience to help them become more sustainable and to produce fundraising proposals could be the key to the organization's survival.

Typical Volunteer: We believe everyone can contribute by volunteering. Recent graduates from high school, college or university, professionals taking a career break, recent retirees, individuals or groups who are interested in a change and the chance to enrich their own life and the lives of others. If you are 18 years or older you can apply for any of the placements available. If you are from 16-18 years old you may apply for placements near our Volunteer Abroad Office and Residence, so that we are able to give you more support. Both students and professionals are needed for placements in all our countries
