Description:
Agona District Assambly aims to improve argricultural practices in Swedru and rural communities that are situated in the Swedru area. Their central focus is working with farmers to improve crop production and farming techniques, however, they also are trying to improve harvesting methods of certain items such as palm oil. They need additional volunteers to work with their team to teach individuals especially farmers about sustainable land use and management.
Highlights:
Volunteers are able to take part in a number of tasks, including, but not limited to: 1. Designing, implementing and compiling survey information about farming practices, size and crops. 2. Compiling survey information and designing informational sessions with farmers to help improve their farming practices to ensure environmental sustainability. The workshops will aim to train farmers in the application of fertilisers and the use of manure and training on sustainable farming methods. Practical workshops and field demonstrations aimed at discouraging bush burning for farming also play a large role in the project. 3. Developing a cirriculum that targets various environmental issues. Workshops can be administered to various groups in the community such as schools, churches and youth groups. 4. Developing a tree planting program that will include a nursary.
Qualifications:
Volunteers should be willing to work in the field and able to adapt to various conditions. Individuals who find have difficulties presenting in front of a class may have a difficult time at this placement.

Cost Include Description:
Upon arrival in country our staff will pick you up at the airport and return you to our Orientation Center for a safety briefing and general country orientation. For this program you are required to complete one week of language training and orientation which is included in the cost of the program. A the end of that week, you will transfer to your placement to begin volunteering. Our staff are available to assist you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week should you require help of any kind.

If you are 18 years or older you can apply for any of the placements available. If you are from 16-18 years old you may apply for placements near our Volunteer Abroad Office and Residence, so that we are able to give you more support. Both students and professionals are needed for placements in all our countries
