Description:
Our health/nursing programs welcome anyone thinking of taking up nursing or alternative health. By working on this program, you will make a real contribution in hospitals, clinics and NGO's. Your help is needed throughout Ecuador to help the Ecuadorian population in the poorest urban or rural areas. Our host medical centres and patients welcome medical students, specialist, nurses, etc. The key requirements in our health/nursing volunteer programs are initiative, enthusiasm and readiness to work in unfamiliar circumstances in certain cases. Description of the work Volunteers will collaborate in the health education, basic prevention, nutrition, and sanitation areas in order to help preventing certain diseases, taking care of patients reporting or on admission, distributing foods, weighing babies, taking blood pressure. For those interested in working within a particular medical field will collaborate in areas such as pediatrics, gynecology, intern medicine, gastroenterology, neurology, rehabilitation and ophthalmology, among others, helping with first aid treatment, observing the expert in diagnosing a patient, recommending treatment, performing minor or major surgeries (for professional volunteers). Program Details - Location of Placement: Quito, Otavalo, Latacunga, Cuenca, Galapagos, Puerto Lopez, BahÃa de Caraquez, Guayaquil, Salinas - Minimum and maximum commitment: 2 weeks to 24 weeks - Minimum Spanish level: Intermediate - Experience: Related previous experience would be helpful but not mandatory - Program dates: All year-round - Deadline: At least 2 weeks before start date - Admission Requirements: Application form, resume and letter of intent - Work Schedule: Full time or part time - Age: 18 or more years of age - Housing and Board: Homestay with an Ecuadorian family (a single room + 3 daily meals)
