Aventura Marão Clube - Marão Adventure Club - is a local association in Amarante founded in 1993 with activities connected to aquatic sports (canoeing), mountain sport (BTT) and Fair Trade movement. The organization develops a lot of activities related to Environment and Natural Patrimony Preservation: International workcamps in 2000 (cleaning and promoting the right side of Tâmega river) and 2001 (Preserving an old water mill at Tâmega river); International workcamps in 2003 and 2004 (Archaeology at a religious monastery); S. Gonçalo Bridge and Old Tower cleaning (at Amarante's city center); Clean up the world campaigns. Since 2000 this association hosts international volunteer projects in Amarante touching themes connected with Environment and Cultural Patrimony Preservation, Archaeology, Fair Trade and Biological Production. The theme of this international volunteer project is Environment and Natural Patrimony Preservation at Tâmega river. Its objectives and tasks will be to clean the left side of Tâmega river (at Sweet Chestnut trail) and conduct some natural regeneration of chestnut and some forest water species. Volunteers will be involved in awareness activities about Environment and Natural Patrimony Preservation at Tâmega river, and will help to promote the walking trail along the left side of Tâmega river and increase the use of it by sportive and local fishermen's activities. Free time activities: During weekends volunteers will always have a leisure program (cultural, sportive, leisure) granted by the host organization (visits, leisure activities, radical sports, etc.).
