Description: Volunteers in this project will work as nurses' assistants. They will work in the Emergency and Surgery units in a small medical center in the city of Macas. The project is located in the Oriente (Amazon Jungle) in Macas and it will extend to all the rural communities of Morona in the province of Morona Santiago.

Volunteers will do social service relating to health, and they will also be helping with the children and the Shuar groups (indigenous people) that live close to Macas and the zone behind Trans Cutucu. Volunteers also offer their services by working with medical brigades and they will travel to other communities to rid the indigenous people of parasites.

Volunteer Nurses in the Amazon Jungle

Highlights: The volunteers will give medical attention in the doctor's office of the patronage and they will also make medical brigades to some of the rural sectors about once every two months. (The volunteer will receive a little direction from the director of the civil hospital of Macas)

Volunteer Profile: This project is looking for the help of men and women from the ages of 24 to 50 years old who are willing to stay for at least three months. Medical knowledge is needed for this project; therefore the volunteers we are looking for should be nurses or doctors.

Qualifications:
- Volunteers should have medical knowledge and experience (college graduates or medical students in at least their third year)
- Volunteers must be between 24 and 50 years old
- They must be willing to stay at least 3 months in the project
- Volunteers must have at least an intermediate level of Spanish

Inscription fee: 150 USD

The project will pay for your accommodation and meals. Volunteers will stay with a host family who will provide them with a room and three meals a day.
Volunteers will receive a tourist visa for 90 days as soon as they enter the country, and this visa can be extended for another 90 days, a total of 6 months. If the volunteer plans on staying with the project for more than 6 months they can ask for a volunteer visa and we will help them with all the requirements and information that they will need to obtain the visa.
