Description:
Enter the Gateway of the East. China is forever linked to its ancient civilization, friendly people, and many of the world's most revered treasures, such as The Great Wall, The Forbidden City, Terra-Cotta Warriors and the Yangtze River. China is also one of the fastest developing countries in the world where you will find spectacular architecture and towering skyscrapers right next to ancient Buddhist temples. More people in China now use the Internet than in Europe and China has more speakers of English as a second language than America has native English speakers. China is the fourth largest country on Earth and contains the world's largest population at over 1.3 billion people. This diverse and dynamic land is also a great place for you to come explore and teach in the role of a Camp Counselor. The Camp China program is based in Chinese schools that run different types of summer camps for children to provide a place for them to share, explore, develop and have fun together. They will also have a chance to learn from Camp Counselors from different parts of the world. The program is based on 'cultural exchange' and represents a unique opportunity to be immersed in Chinese culture as well as having a chance to travel throughout the country after the program is completed. The program gives you the security and comfort of obtaining the necessary training for the job and having the costs of meals and accommodation covered. This blend of structure and security along with the freedom and flexibility to travel throughout China, come together to make this a truly unique and positive experience.
Highlights:
The program is split into two sections. First there is the Training and Orientation section, followed by the Camp Counselor placement. In the Training segment, participants will go through a comprehensive one-week program delivered by the Camp Leadership Academy, with an award form the Zhongshan University. The training includes leadership skills, basic TEFL instruction, camp activities, camp songs and safety and emergency procedures. There will be some cultural and sightseeing activities as well as three basic Mandarin lessons. The orientation will include airport pick-up, a welcome dinner, a welcome kit and three orientation classes to help acclimate participants to their new surroundings. Full room and board is also included during the training. After training, participants can expect four weeks of Camp Counselor work in two different regions of China (two weeks in one placement followed by two weeks in another). Your duties will include activities such as songs, personal development, games, arts and crafts, teaching conversational English to small groups, and preparation of teaching materials and lessons. You will also be expected to attend any required meetings and participate in all activities and cultural events. All accommodation and meals during camp are included (there will be an approximately three day period in-between the two camps where participants will be responsible for their own food). An allowance of 2,000 RMB (approx. $257) will be paid to all participants. 1,000 will be paid upon arrival and 1,000 will be paid upon completion of the program. There is also a 24-hour translation and support number given at the start of placement as well as a 24-hour emergency number. Participants are allocated to their placements as soon as the Summer Camp schools advise on their final number of students. All participants accepted will receive a placement and if they apply together, they will be placed in the same school. Most of the schools are in the north, central and east of China. All are located in large cities that provide excellent opportunities for cultural experiences. All participants will also have the opportunity to travel throughout China after the Camp program ends but must leave before the expiry date of their visa. All participants in this program will receive a wonderful experience that will be both challenging and rewarding. China is not for the faint of heart, but those who rise to the challenge will find that their time in China will be life shaping in regard to character development, cultural understanding and future work and business opportunities.
