Durations of Program: 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks and 3-6 months
Dates: Flexible dates are available.

Description: This community service program is located in the La Boca neighborhood of Buenos Aires. The organization you will be working with was founded in 1935 and it worked as a recreational center for Italian immigrants until 1990. In 1996, it was reopened as a social organization. The institution has a free access library where counseling and legal support are provided. The center also works with non-governmental organizations that carry out prevention campaigns against HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases; they provide guidance to women at risk through a Womens Commission that works with Assistance Programs backed up by the local government. You will be working in the center helping with day-to-day duties as well as helping in the specific projects that the center operates.

All of our programs in Argentina include accommodation and half board as well as your work certificate, participant handbook, assistance throughout the program, a 24 hour emergency telephone and a day of orientation to familiarize you with your new surroundings as well as the program itself.

Community Development in LaBoca

Highlights: Volunteers in this program will have a chance to work in all areas of the project, which is comprised of a recreational center for the children, various workshops for children, adolescents and adults, an Alfajores shop and a souvenir shop. Work in the most important area, the workshops, include helping with English classes (very important), homework support and classes to teach adults how to read and write. The center sells the Alfajores and small souvenirs in order to help finance the other projects. Volunteers are also welcome to work in these two areas, which give the children a great opportunity to interact with the tourists as well as practice their English.
