Description:
Volunteers will assist one or more current residential English teachers at their prospective school and teach English to a classroom size of 40-45 students. Each class period will be 90 minutes in duration. Volunteers will work with half of the class while the resident English teacher will work with the other half. After 45 minutes, volunteers and teachers exchange groups and teach the other half of the class for the next 45 minutes. In addition, volunteers are responsible for the development of extracurricular activities such as afterschool English clubs, art projects, science, and sports clubs. Volunteers will work 25 hours a week in the classroom, with the focus on improving the students listening and speaking skills, and they will prepare lesson plans and activities that encourage language production such as dialogues, games, pronunciation activities, debates, role playing, and conversation groups.

Qualifications:
- TEFL Certification through TEFL Institute - Fluency in English - Minimum of 21 years of age - College degree in some discipline or current enrollment in a university - Eight month commitment to teaching assignment (March-November 2008) - Summer teaching June - August - Comprehensive Health Insurance Coverage

Cost Include Description:
TEFL Certification, Housing, Job training, two-week orientation in Santiago, Round trip transportation to Region VI from Santiago, assistance and support in acquiring a temporary residence visa for an entire year, and a Chilean national Identity card.

Typical Volunteer: All volunteers must be motivated and enthusiastic about the cultural exchange experience. Volunteers must be commited to the 8 month teaching assignment, and display a good sense of humor and ingenuity. Some knowledge of Spanish is preferred but not required.
