Description: To empower women folks of this area, we are forming poor women's self help groups and at present, we are having 550 members under our organization. Micro credit programs are also going on. The volunteers can visit the members' houses, participate in the meetings for the SHGs conducted by us and by this, the volunteers can get first hand practical knowledge of the status of the poor women folks of this area who are upgraded by us through our micro credit programs. The criteria for this volunteering is that the volunteers should Teach English in our Nursery and primary school in addition to the SHG volunteering.

Our SHG members are from poor family backgrounds and the decision making authority in most of the families are men. To get our women SHG members equal status in the families, we are working hard and in almost every meeting this particular subject is raised and our members are getting awareness in this regard.

If volunteers from abroad are placed, they will get more knowledge about gender equality and our women SHG members' position will be improved further.

The volunteers will get them aware of the socio economic conditions of women in Europe and other continents. Home-cooked food with packaged drinking water, very good accommodation with western type bath rooms and free broadband internet facility will be provided to the volunteers. Phone facility is available on payment basis.

*The highlight of our volunteering placement is that the volunteers from abroad will be taught yoga in our school for one hour or more.

Our past volunteers really enjoyed the home stay and mingling with the family members, attending local functions and ceremonies cannot be forgotten ever by the volunteers. On Saturdays and Sundays, the volunteers can go out on weekend trips to many tourist spots like hill stations and beaches.

We are providing three times home cooked food with packaged drinking water, neat accommodation with western type bath rooms. Madurai airport pickup charges also have been included in the cost.

Broadband internet browsing facility and phone facility are available on payment basis.

The volunteers can fly to Chennai from their countries and from Chennai, domestic flights are operated to Madurai. From the Madurai airport, the volunteers will be picked up by car to Virudhunagar.

Unity Charitable Trust's Mission Statement: Unity Charitable Trust is a registered charitable organization for the welfare of the poor, the disabled, the orphaned children and the depressed women. The organization also includes a Women's Self-Help Group holding effective and efficient training programs for the development of entrepreneurship among the local women. One Nursery and primary school with kids from the age group of 2 to 10 years is also run by us. We are also placing foreign volunteers into local projects for them to get first hand knowledge of Indian culture, customs, education and so on. Our projects include a Nursery and primary school, and a computer literacy center.
