Description: Volunteers have the opportunity to teach conversational English to students at kindergartens, primary, secondary schools or colleges. The teaching program focuses on listening, comprehension and speaking ability. The location of the program is in the coastal city of Yantai which a 1-hour flight east from Beijing.

Your role will be as an assistant teacher in class, helping the Chinese teacher who teaches English full-time. You will have guidance of the school principal as well. You can also be the sole teacher in the classroom. Many teaching volunteers welcome the challenge of immersing themselves in Chinese culture by leading a class themselves. All teaching materials will be provided by the school.

The teaching schedule is Monday to Friday, for about 2-3 hours per day. The teaching timetable is discussed personally with the school principal and English teaching staff. Most of the classes are conducted in the morning, with afternoon activities that can include sports, games, and arts & crafts.

The program schedule varies at each school, although you must arrive at the beginning of the semester for your teaching program. Keep in mind that school exams take place at both mid term and end of term which will affect your teaching schedule. The 2-week Summer Teaching Program in July consists of teaching English, and extra-curricular activities such as sport, games, hiking and excursions.

Accommodations for volunteers are at the schools. All meals are provided, as well as a private room that includes television, landline phone, kitchen (refrigerator/sink), and private bathroom/shower. Internet access is provided by the school for free, in the English teachers' office.

Qualifications: Volunteer teachers must be:

- Native speakers
- 18+
- Possess maturity to handle their own classroom
