Help Study and Monitor Costa Rica's Primates and Large Mammals

Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks, 3-6 months, 7-12 months, 1-2 years and over 2 years

Description: This project has the aim of better understanding the primates of the Tortuguero area. Volunteers get the chance to observe the behavior of three different species of monkeys all while enjoying the calmness of the black water canals. It is hoped that the data collected in this project assists in providing better habit conservation for primates and a better understanding of their relationship with the flora of the area.

* The opportunity to watch and learn from the areas primates, get up close and personal with them as you see them in their natural environment.

Qualifications: Must be able to work in all conditions, good physical stamina, able to handle remote environment.

  • Cost Include Description:
    The cost includes your stay at the biological station and all meals while there. It also gives volunteers / interns access to use the trail system, canoes and kayaks of the station.

  • Typical Volunteer: Most volunteers have no background in the field and we provide all the training necessary for them to accomplish the required work. Some are looking to change their curent job situation and want to try something new, while others are looking to gain experience in the field for related work.

The mission of COTERC is to provide leadership in education, research, conservation and the wise use of natural resources in the tropics. We provide conservation, research and education opportunities at the Cano Palma Biological Station for those interested in sea turtles, resident and migrant birds, neotropical mammals, herptiles, invertebrates and flora.
