Description: Do you want to learn Spanish in one of the most fascinating and welcoming communities in Central America? The Guacamaya Spanish School is a locally-owned school with experienced and enthusiastic teachers dedicated to providing high quality Spanish classes that will speed your language acquisition and comprehension.

We are located in the western highlands of Honduras, near the Guatemala border, in the heart of the peaceful, the scenic town of Copan Ruinas, just two blocks from the central park, and less than a mile from the world-renowned Maya archeological ruins.

Our school offers individuals and families one-on-one instruction with experienced, qualified teachers in a comfortable, productive learning environment.

* Volunteer Opportunities

Although the town of Copán Ruinas is relatively prosperous due to eco-tourism and the Maya ruins, the region around Copán is one of the poorest places in the Western Hemisphere. For this reason, volunteer opportunities abound. And your efforts are sure to be deeply appreciated. For many years we have been arranging volunteer stints for our students.

For students living in Copán for an extended period, rewarding volunteer positions are available in a variety of fields. For example, past students have worked on reforestation projects, in day care centers, or on drinking water projects. The need for volunteer assistance is greatest in the following areas:

- Environment
- Health
- Education
- Agriculture
- Religion

Highlights: We offer an intensive Spanish immersion experience in a comfortable, productive learning environment:

- One-to-one student/teacher ratio
- Four hours daily instruction, five days a week
- Optional regional excursions to reinforce class learning
- An opportunity to live with a local family
- A wide variety of exciting outside activities
- Rewarding volunteer opportunities

Our comprehensive program also includes a workbook specific to your level.

During your stay, enjoy additional perks such as superb local coffee & snacks, access to a bilingual library for all levels, one hour of free Internet access weekly, a diploma and small, local-made memento.

Qualifications: To be a volunteer, you need to want to help the people and work hard and live a simple very simple life, sometimes in the mountains with the indigenous there.
