Portuguese Immersion and Volunteer in Salvador-Bahia Brazil
Brazil
Durations of Program: 9-12 weeks and 3-6 months
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: All year round
Description:
Dialogo Portuguese Language School is investing in social projects to help the local community. The school is involved in different campaigns to raise money, food, and clothes for the elderly and orphan children. Our most recent social project is support for a special NGO that is training children of favelas, low-income neighborhoods, for sports such as basketball. Visiting students who would like to help can work as volunteers with an NGO that the school supports. The students can also bring used clothes, toys and household items to offer these programs. Anyone interested can request a list of things that are most needed. The school also offers special discounts for institutions sending volunteers to programs in Brazil.
Highlights:
* The historic center of Salvador Bahia (Pelourinho) is the biggest barock complex in the south of the equator! * The carnival in Salvador is the biggest street carnival in the world (Guiness book of records). * Salvador is the most important Afro-Brazilian city in Brazil. * Bahia has more than 1000km of paradisiac tropical beaches. * Besides this, Bahia is called "Terra da Felizidade" (land of happiness) with a great hospitality of the population.
Qualifications:
* A minimum 2 month stay is required in order to volunteer with a project. * The volunteer has to be over 18 and aware that this is unpaid work. * The volunteer will be interviewed in order to determinate in which area he/she will work. * The volunteer need a basic knowledge of Portuguese language (equivalent of 4 weeks Brazil Workshop) * Former working experience in social projects would be appreciated. * The work area also depends on the NGO's needs. It is easier to get volunteer work with underprivileged children and teenagers, than with Special children (Blind, HIV infected, etc).
