Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks

Description: Based in the beautiful Playa del Carmen, Ayuda de los Angeles reaches out to the low-income members of the community through a number of medical and educational programs. The breadth of our work means that your voluntary experience can take you from teaching to events organization through to construction, depending on your passions. We are a small but growing organization which means each volunteer has the opportunity to make a real difference using your skills, interests and enthusiasm.

Our belief is that volunteering should be just as beneficial to you as to us and we will help you to develop a program that suits you. For example, if you like to draw and love kids you can create your own art class, similarly if you want to improve your Spanish you can combine a language course with translating for our medical staff. We urgently need contributions in any of the following areas: translation, public relations, marketing, teaching, gardening, cooking, administration, events organization and construction. In addition we are always looking for professional doctors, nurses, dentists, psychologists, therapists, speech therapists, counselors and students of these fields.

Ayuda de los Angeles's Mission Statement: Ayuda de los Angeles is a non profit organization that offers medical help to low income families of the Riviera Maya in Mexico. We offer specialized medical treatment that is normally unavailable to the impoverished people of this region, such as open heart and reconstructive surgery. In addition, we have a clinic of alternative medicine in Playa del Carmen which promotes well-being within the community through programs of therapy, yoga, physiotherapy and music therapy amongst other things. We are a small but rapidly growing organization. As we identify the needs of the local people we are diversifying and expanding in many directions. Your help will be vital in meeting these challenges we face. We believe that volunteering should be as beneficial to you as to us therefore we will help you to create a voluntary experience that suits your goals and passions.
