Nepal Social Programs - Child Protection Centers & Services
Nepal
Durations of Program: 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks, 3-6 months and 7-12 months
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: Year round, departures at beginning of each month
Description:
The staff of CPCS were almost all street kids at one time, and they have very little education and experience in administration, accounting, management, teaching, proposal writing etc. Foreign assistance can provide excellent training and help to the staff with these skills. Simply having English as a first language is a huge asset for a volunteer here where they can help teach the staff and the target group. Volunteers add attention and excitement to a lot of the field programs where the street children may not otherwise show interest.
Highlights:
* There is a wide range of work to be done with the CPCS depending on your background. * They really need administration/accounting/computer/proposal writing/management/program development assistance to train and help the staff. * They could also use help working with the kids directly both in the field: organizing activities and recreation such as sports, drama therapy and street arts. Acting as a role model/big brother or sister and encouraging self-confidence. * Other possible side jobs could be improving the website or developing brochures and public awareness literature.
Qualifications:
A mature and strong person capable with dealing with troubled kids who may resist help. Understanding and empathetic. Energetic, dynamic and fun with a youth age group. Sincere. It would help to be somewhat self motivated and not afraid to suggest and help develop programs. Other skills or training that maybe of use: Nutritionist, Standard First Aid, Health and Hygiene Training, Child and Youth Worker (Certified), At-Risk Youth Worker (Non-Certified), Leadership Programming, Recreational Programming, Grant Applications / Fund raising, Social Work, Day Care Work, Crisis Counseling, Educational Games, various sports.
