Description:
CPCS runs a 24 hour emergency support and small clinic to help street children in Kathmandu. Funding and staffing are always challenging, so volunteers with experience in first aid training or with medical backgrounds are very valuable to assist the staff both at the clinic and in the field. 80 staff work with over 500 kids per day both on the street and at the shelter.
Highlights:
* Assisting onsite doctor or nurse with treating patients with minor medical emergencies. This is a small clinic, so major cases are refered to larger hospitals. * Work with field staff being prepared to administer first aid, first aid training, health education, AIDS/STD awareness etc to street children. * Prepare educational seminars at the center relating to health & hygiene, first aid, nutrition, AIDS/STD awareness, family planning etc.
Qualifications:
A mature and strong person capable with dealing with troubled kids who may resist help. Understanding and empathetic. Energetic, dynamic and fun with a youth age group. Sincere. It would help to be somewhat self motivated and not affraid to suggest and help develop programs. Other skills or training that may be of use: Nutritionist, Emergency Medical Technician, Standard First Aid, Health and Hygiene Training, HIV / AIDS Awareness Training, Sexual & Reproductive Health Training, Hospital / Clinic Administration, Public Health, Child and Youth Worker (Certified), Day Care Work, Crisis Counseling, Addiction Counseling,

Recent graduates from high school, college or university, professionals taking a career break, recent retirees, individuals or groups who are interested in a change and the chance to enrich their own life and the lives of others. If you are 18 years or older you can apply for any of the placements available. If you are from 16-18 years old you may apply for placements near our Volunteer Abroad Office and Residence, so that we are able to give you more support.
Both students and professionals are needed for placements in all our countries.
