Nepal Health & Medical Placement - Siddhi Shaligram Briddhashram
Nepal
Durations of Program: 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks, 3-6 months and 7-12 months
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: Year round, departures at the beginning of each month
Description:
This is a new project that just opened on in Oct 2005, and they need help to get it off the ground. Working with the elderly is a very new concept in Nepal, so there are limited resources available. Any experience people have working with geriatrics is very useful. The Siddhi Memorial Foundation has a lot of passion and vision, but lacks the experience, skills and organization that volunteers can provide.
Highlights:
* Siddhi Memorial Hospital specifically needs help in administration and management of the new elderly home. * Assistance with developing better sustainability and fundraising is also imperative. Someone with some new ideas for fundraising could really help. * Someone with experience with geriatrics to run activities and assist with organization and developing new programs would also be great. * Developing a local volunteer initiative with youth to help with the elderly. * Developing a handicraft rehab program and potential fair trade initiative for future sustainability. * Fundraising proposals and assistance with paperwork and website, translation and document processing etc. * Depending on your experience and background you may be able to assist witht he Women and Children's hospital on-site.
Qualifications:
You must be flexible and patient to work in any Nepalese setting. Festivals and strikes constantly disrupt the work day, and things just don't happen very efficiently. You also must be self motivated and capable of thinking for yourself, proposing your ideas and making suggestions. The SMH needs someone to help them take ideas and make them happen. Anyone who can not wait or who is frustrated by people being late is not reccommended for this placement. Unfortunately this is just a reality that you must learn to live and work with.
