Description:
If you were inspired by the World Cup and want to make a real difference to the lives of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, then this is the project for you! You'll be working with an organisation which uses sports as a tool for community development: tackling poverty and rehabilitating youngsters who have had very difficult lives. You don't necessarily need previous coaching experience but a love of the beautiful games and a few silky skills would be most welcome. You'll be teaching formations, improving the children's technical skills and planning set pieces to be used in matches; there may even be the chance of you being able to take part in a game or two as part of the coaching staff. The importance of soccer to poor communities cannot be overestimated: it brings hope, self belief and some much needed fun into the lives of youngsters who really need it. You will be part of the aims and objectives of a Tanzanian Foundation (who conduct vocational training, school teaching, orphan education and women projects in towns and villages) whose main objective is to enhance the livelihood of the rural villages, orphans, women and tribal people as the Masai tribe. You will be concentrating on the football coaching programme for the children. The organisation comprises youth coordinators, sports coaches and players, and its mission is to use sports as a tool for tackling poverty and to rehabilitate young people and to produce successful sports competitors. The club contains 2 age groups (5-15) & (15-25) and they have their own football pitches. If you want to be excited by travel, if you want to see a side of the world that package tourists can only dream of and if you want to make a difference to the world we live in & get in touch, join the fight against mindless holidays and save some hard-earned cash!
Highlights:
The organisation is under-resourced and under-staffed, and would welcome assistance from volunteers with a passion for sports and an interest in the issues facing young people in Tanzania today. Volunteers are needed to create awareness of and enthusiasm for the work done and to assist the staff with sports programmes and youth work. You can bring your soccer experience and a fresh approach to organising fun, engaging football activities. Volunteers are also needed offer companionship to the young people at the organisation and to encourage a sense of self-worth and hope in them. Your role within the project will be to support the coaching of the children through various training techniques, improving their technical skill and technique as well as teaching them formations, set pieces ultimately broadening their understanding of the beautiful game!
Qualifications:
You will need to be flexible, and have patience and enthusiasm to face the many hurdles and challenges that you will inevitably encounter within your role.
