Description:
The main Bal Mandir children's home receives almost all of the orphaned infants and smallest children of Nepal. They do not have enough staff to deal with all of the challenges that this provides, not to mention a nurse to care for the numerous medical problems they contend with.
Highlights:
Some specific tasks for the volunteer: - Health check-ups for all children of the orphanage - General health & hygiene and nutrition education to staff and children - First aid training to staff Additional time can be sent helping with general childcare at any age group from changing diapers to playing football with older children. Helping the staff, by giving them a break, helping them clean, teaching them English etc.
Qualifications:
This placement is great for someone who loves and has had experience with children of all ages, especially babies! They are looking for people with some medical training that can help with the day to day needs. Some specific skills or training that would be helpful: Nurse, Medical Student, Pre-Medical Student, Nutritionist, Emergency Medical Technician, Standard First Aid, Health and Hygiene Training, Public Health, Child and Health Worker (Certified), Early Childhood Education, At-Risk Youth Worker, Social Worker (BSW, MSW, or Student, Day Care Work, Educational Games.
