Description:
Harka Self-Sustaining Orphanage is located in rural Bharatpur in the Chitwan district, about 170 kilometers southwest of Nepal's capital Kathmandu. Currently 16 children aged 3 to 9 call Harka home. Two house 'mothers' live on site. The aim of this orphanage is to be self-sufficient, with infrastructure for fish and animal farming, animal husbandry, beekeeping, and other trades that will provide income towards the running of the orphanage. Workers will be hired to run these activities, and children over 9 who live at Harka will help a few hours a week when they have time, so that they learn trades and contribute to the place where they live. Harka Orphanage also aims to provide non-school-going children and youth training in yoga to overcome their distressing pasts and income-generating activities to support themselves. The children will be encouraged to live in peace and harmony, and to make friends at home and abroad. Willing children will be provided with education until 12th grade. Because a natural home is never comparable to any other environment for a child, if family or other relatives of the children are traced, they will be rehabilitated as far as practicable. Dedicated volunteers are needed to care for the children, teach English, crafts, art, etc at the orphanage, and teach at the children's school.

KIDS Worldwide's Mission Statement: Kids Worldwide seeks to improve the quality of life for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
We provide nurturing care and educational programmes based upon the universal concepts of Neo-Humanism, which are tailored to the needs of the children in our projects.
We run orphanages as well as provide services to already established orphanages and childrens' projects (such as struggling primary schools and kindergartens) through our volunteer outreach programs.
Our volunteer programs are notable in that we only request a small donation for food and accommodation that is paid directly to the project itself when the volunteer arrives.
