Volunteer Abroad in Palestine

Description: This is an opportunity to volunteer with Project Hope working with Palestinian children and youth. There are a variety of programs, depending on the time of year. Typically English and French as a Second Language, as well as Art, are the primary activities year-round.

Highlights: A unique opportunity to develop your own skills and personal character.

Qualifications: We are most interested in native speakers or teachers of English and French, artists and persons with professional skills. We do not accept volunteers under 21 years of age unless in exceptional circumstances. Retirees are more than welcome to apply. We will consider all applications consisting of a CV/resume and application form - available from the volunteer page of our website. From this we will try to place you in an appropriate program, upon acceptance.

    The cost does change slightly on occassion. You can ask the Recruiter for information upon application. The fee is meant only to help cover the cost of volunteer housing. The volunteer is responsible for all other daily or travel costs. Living costs within Palestine tend to be quite low.

    Experience Required: yes

    For all programs the volunteers are expected to have had some teaching experience with groups of children or youths. This needs to include taking a leading role with groups. Volunteers also need specific experience for the program that they are applying to teach.

  • Typical Volunteer: Volunteers come from around the world and from many different ethnic, religious, cultural and philosophical backgrounds. A large number of the volunteers are university students or recent graduates. There have been a number of volunteers on leave from work and some retirees.

    Age Range: 21+

    This Program is open to Worldwide Participants. This Program is also open to Couples and Individuals

    Scholarships are Available. Some internships are available depending on where the volunteer usually lives. -In 2008 volunteers from Europe may apply to volunteer under the EVS scheme. -Between March 2008 and March 2009 volunteers from the Netherlands may apply for an internship sponsored by Oxfam-Novib and the NPK. -Volunteers from Belgium can apply to volunteer through Broderlijk Delen. -Volunteers from Norway may be able to apply for support from the NPK. -Please contact recruiter for more details.

    Project Hope: Humanitarian Opportunities for Peace and Education's Mission Statement: Project Hope is a non-profit volunteer organization whose goal is to provide a participatory, educational space for war-affected children in the Near East. Committed to the principles of international humanitarian law and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, our aim is support children denied access to basic services: by providing educational and recreational activities, medical and humanitarian relief and practical training that can empower them with hope and skills for the future. We aim to achieve these goals through an efficient, effective, accountable and participatory approach that focuses on child protection, with gender equality and advancement as an integral part of our mission.
