Teach English in the Galapagos Islands
Ecuador
- Galapagos Islands:
Galapagos Islands
Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: Multiple start dates year round
Description:
Want to really get to know the Galapagos Islands? Living on an island that has been voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, it's not surprising that the residents end up taking second billing to the natural surroundings. It's a shame though as they have a rich and unique culture to share and can provide a hugely interesting insight into the island. By living and teaching here, you'll get the chance to learn about the island without missing out on seeing it either, as its size makes it easy to explore. With so many tourists visiting every year, it's imperative that the residents learn English both to improve their own futures and that of the island. We'll include our TEFL certification so that when you arrive you will feel ready to prepare and take English classes with confidence. Highlights:
What were the highlights of your trip that you couldn't wait to tell your friends about? "The Galapagos Islands has so much amazing wildlife I'm so lucky to have experienced it. There were plenty of friendly people at the project and we had some great adventures like horseriding and visiting volcanoes!" (Sheila McAllister) Galapagos is a very touristy region of Ecuador, and it is extremely important for the Galapaguenos to learn the language in order to be able to work in the islands. You will help teach the local children by preparing and conducting English classes and activities to promote learning and development.
Qualifications:
We recommend that all volunteers applying to this project have at least a basic knowledge of Spanish and are very motivated to teach. Clearly a love of children will be needed, from younger children through to late teenagers. A TEFL (Teach English as a Foreign Language) course is included in the project.
