Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks

Description: In Nepal, there are thousands of Tibetan refugees who are in exile. Hundreds of Tibetan kids are taking Buddhist monk education/training in monasteries in Kathmandu to preserve the amazing cultural richness of Tibet for coming generations. Knowledge of English can be a great help to these kids to explore more scriptures written in English and disseminate Buddhist teachings to the whole world. Your help as a Nepal Volunteer Teacher really helps these young Buddhist monks achieve their goals.

As a Nepal volunteer in our Buddhist monks program, you will provide basic conversational English instruction to Tibetan children. You can also organize games, painting, drawing, and other creative activities for the Tibetan students. As a unique facet of this placement, you will get to witness and participate in traditional Buddhist rituals.

It is helpful for the volunteers to learn some Nepali language, so our Nepal volunteer program also tailors one week Language and Cultural Immersion Program to learn the language basics and about Nepali lifestyle and culture. The LAC is optional and runs the week of your arrival, prior to beginning your volunteer commitment. The LAC includes guided excursions to local villages, markets and other places of interest.

Institute For Field Research Expeditions's Mission Statement: The mission of our volunteer abroad program is to offer meaningful volunteer abroad opportunities for volunteers and to seek sustainable solutions for education, health, conservation, and development issues through international volunteering. We hope to achieve this goal by offering community orientated volunteer programs where the efforts of our volunteers go directly to the poor people and their communities. Many grass-root organizations working in developing countries are poor in resources. These organizations are doing a commendable job to address development, education, health, and conservation issues by launching a variety of programs but these organizations are in a great need of help and support. IFRE promotes these local organizations by making donations and sending volunteers.

    Year Founded: 2005
