Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks

Description:
Despite its rapid development, there are thousands of kids living in the orphanages in India. Local organizations running orphanage programs are running out of resources and manpower. So, the help of international volunteers is greatly needed and appreciated. As a volunteer in the orphanage, you will mostly be involved in teaching English. Volunteers can teach other subjects and help the orphans to understand the importance of hygiene, sanitation and good manners, and help them with their homework. Additional help in distributing food, organizing creative activities like game, paining, drawing, and maintaining the compound can be expected. In Jaipur and Ladakh, a small elementary school is a part of the orphanage. So, volunteer also works as a teacher helping kids improve their education. In these activities, together with the children, you are enriching the life of these poor, destitute and deprived children who depend on us for their future. It is helpful for the volunteers to learn Hindi language, so our volunteer program also tailors a one week Language and Cultural Immersion Program to learn the basic language, and about Indian culture and lifestyle. The LAC is optional and runs in the week of your arrival. The LAC offers guided excursions to villages, markets and other areas of interest.

Institute For Field Research Expeditions's Mission Statement: The mission of our volunteer abroad program is to offer meaningful volunteer abroad opportunities for volunteers and to seek sustainable solutions for education, health, conservation, and development issues through international volunteering. We hope to achieve this goal by offering community orientated volunteer programs where the efforts of our volunteers go directly to the poor people and their communities.
Many grass-root organizations working in developing countries are poor in resources. These organizations are doing a commendable job to address development, education, health, and conservation issues by launching a variety of programs but these organizations are in a great need of help and support. IFRE promotes these local organizations by making donations and sending volunteers.
