Health Care Project in Ghana
Ghana
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: 1st and 3rd Monday of each month, all year.
Description:
Efforts are underway to improve the health sector in Ghana. Ghanaian government and various NGOs are running a number of health facilities, hospitals, maternity clinics, children hospitals, HIV/AIDS wards, and alternative medicine clinics in the cities and rural areas. As a health volunteer with medical background, you will work along with the doctors and nurses. Depending upon your qualification and experience, you will take care of the patients, and provide first aid treatment. Sometimes you will be expected to participate in the health education programs of the hospital disseminating information on nutrition, sanitation, and other health related topics. It is helpful for the volunteers to learn some Twi language, so our Ghana volunteer project also tailors one week Language and Cultural Immersion Program to learn the basic language, and about Ghanaian lifestyles and culture. The LAC is optional and runs in the first week after your arrival, before the start of your volunteer commitment. The LAC includes guided excursions to villages, markets and other areas of interest.
Highlights:
Enjoy the land filled with sun dappled beaches, beautiful landscape, and lush green vegetation. Experience the multi ethno linguistic groups in this shore lined West African nation.

Institute For Field Research Expeditions's Mission Statement: The mission of our volunteer abroad program is to offer meaningful volunteer abroad opportunities for volunteers and to seek sustainable solutions for education, health, conservation, and development issues through international volunteering. We hope to achieve this goal by offering community orientated volunteer programs where the efforts of our volunteers go directly to the poor people and their communities.
Many grass-root organizations working in developing countries are poor in resources. These organizations are doing a commendable job to address development, education, health, and conservation issues by launching a variety of programs but these organizations are in a great need of help and support. IFRE promotes these local organizations by making donations and sending volunteers.
