HIV/AIDS Awareness in Ghana
Ghana
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: 1st and 3rd Monday of each month, all year.
Description:
Like any other African nation, Ghana is also plagued by AIDS which affects the lives of men, women and children. There are an estimated 350,000 people living with HIV/AIDS in Ghana which is, unbelievably, only a percentage of what it can be based on what's occuring in other African nations. So many people still need to be educated about the deadly virus - how it is spread and how it can be controlled. As a Ghana volunteer working in an HIV/AIDS project, you will provide support to the children and people affected by this disease. You will also provide education trainings to increase and generate awareness on HIV/AIDS and stop its spread. Together with the organizations that have established various community outreach programs you will work towards a better future for Africa and the AIDS pandemic. It is helpful for our volunteers to learn some Twi language, so our Ghana volunteer project also tailors one week Language and Cultural Immersion Program to learn the basic language, and about Ghanaian Culture and lifesyle. The LAC includes guided excursions to local villages, markets and other areas of interest. Our LAC program is optional and runs in the week after arrival, before you begin your volunteer commitment.

Institute For Field Research Expeditions's Mission Statement: The mission of our volunteer abroad program is to offer meaningful volunteer abroad opportunities for volunteers and to seek sustainable solutions for education, health, conservation, and development issues through international volunteering. We hope to achieve this goal by offering community orientated volunteer programs where the efforts of our volunteers go directly to the poor people and their communities.
Many grass-root organizations working in developing countries are poor in resources. These organizations are doing a commendable job to address development, education, health, and conservation issues by launching a variety of programs but these organizations are in a great need of help and support. IFRE promotes these local organizations by making donations and sending volunteers.
