Teach in a Bilingual school in an NGO Home for Girls!
Honduras
Description:
Holy Family Bilingual school is a Not-for-profit bilingual school for education and the empowerment of girls from the OLR Home for Girls: Volunteers accepted for a teaching position will be part of the staff of Holy Family Bilingual School. Holy Family Bilingual School was founded in 1998 by the director of Our Little Roses Ministries and is located on the actual compound of Our Little Roses Home for Girls. It offers preschool through 8th grade. Holy Family Bilingual School provides an excellent private education. The school is comprised of about 15% of girls from OLR Home for Girls and the rest are children of middle class families and scholarship students from the community. All profits made by Holy Family Bilingual School help pay for education for the OLR girls, and are otherwise invested in Our Little Roses Home for Girls. Volunteers will team-teach in the classroom with a Honduran teacher: volunteers teach basic education classes (math, reading, science, phonics, spelling, grammar) entirely in English while the Honduran staff teaches other subjects (social studies, Spanish grammar) in Spanish. Children become fluent with ease in both languages through this method. The school day typically runs from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., after which volunteers usually help in the OLR Home for Girls. Volunteers accepted into teaching positions must remain for the entire school year (August through June).
Highlights:
In Honduras where the plight of abused and abandoned girls was once ignored, the ministry of Our Little Roses home has become an oasis of hope and opportunity for the girl child at risk. God has truly blessed this ministry shown in the transformed lives of once destitute girls. It began with a vision given to Doctor Diana Frade of hope with life-changing dimensions for physically and emotionally abused girls as well as orphans. Our Little Roses Ministries or Ministerios Nuestras Pequeñas Rosas, as it is called in Spanish, maintains this central focus of working to rescue and transform the lives of homeless girls and has expanded to encompass several interrelated ministries within the larger community. These extended ministries include health and dental clinics, a housing project for poor single mothers with a literacy program, a community bilingual school, a Spanish language immersion program, retreat center, a bed and breakfast hostel and hospitality house.
