Description: Conservation projects are exciting, beneficial, fun, worthwhile ... and so much more! Help to rehabilitate abused or orphaned animals in sanctuaries, or assist in saving threatened species by conserving them in Game Reserves. Help educate local communities in the necessity for conservation. So many opportunities to contribute and have an exciting adventure at the same time!

We have many placements available on projects such as:

=> WILDLIFE REHABILITATION in various different countries. Here you'll care for injured and orphaned animals and help to release them back into the wild.
=> CARE FOR ANIMALS IN SANCTUARIES: Looking after animals that have been so badly injured that they cannot be released back into the wild because they will be preyed on and unable to defend themselves. They will need a safe environment for the rest of their lives.
=> WORK WITH MARINE ANIMALS, such as the Great White Shark, Dolphins, Whales, Seals and Penguins - very exciting.
=> CONSERVATION IN GAME RESERVES where you'll monitor and collect data on all types of species, including the Big Five (Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Rhino and Leopard). The result of your work is used to Wildlife Departments and Conservation Organisations to plan conservation policies and procedures. Very satisfying.
=> WORK WITH ORANG-UTANS in Sepilok, the worl'd most famous Orang Conservation and Rehabilitation Centre in the world.
=> WORK IN ZOOS to help improve the quality of life of captive animals by caring for them and helping to enrich their enclosures.
=> ASSIST ON A LION-BREEDING PROJECT in Africa where you get to work hands-on with lion cubs that are being bred to improve the clean gene pool and eradicate fatal feline diseases.

Travellers appreciate the urgent need to educate the people of today about our world's endangered species and eco-systems, people such as consumers in the Western world, local people who live close to wildlife, and local authorities and councils who have the power to protect their immediate environment but not the knowledge of how sacred our endangered species are.

We are actively involved in many important conservation initiatives around the world. We believe that protecting our animal species and our planet is of vital necessity. Taking action and increasing awareness now is necessary for our future generations otherwise all of nature's precious resources will have been used up. According to the World Conservation Union (IUCN), 15,589 species of animals and plants are threatened with extinction and many ecosystems wetlands, forests are being degraded and destroyed...

YOU can help by contributing hands on help in research, rehabilitation and animal welfare development. Go out into the wilderness to absorb and appreciate nature at its most glorious, and at it's most vulnerable.

Highlights: There are many things you can do while on a Conservation Project. These will vary depending on the country you choose. In many of our countries we have optional extras that range from short adventure courses like surfing, paragliding, Bush Survival, to safari tours, marine safaris to watch dolphins.

In some countries you can do Tango, Salsa or dance lessons, short intensive language lessons, or heritage tours to learn about the history of the local people such as the Aborigines. And, of course, visiting famous landmarks like Victoria Falls in Zambia, or the Iguacu Falls in Brazil, climbing or cable-car-ing up Table Mountain in South Africa or visiting the famous Pinawala Elephant Orphanage in Sri Lanka. And stunning beaches everywhere!

Traveller's Contribution to World Conservation:

- Identifying worthwhile conservation work around the world that requires hands on assistance and/or funding assistance
- Implementing conservation projects around the world
- Continuously monitoring the work to ensure that it provides adequate support, structure, comfort and satisfaction for the volunteers
- Continuously seeking to ensure future development of a worthwhile program.
- Providing structured and safe conservation projects for inexperienced volunteers with an interest in conservation
- Marketing these opportunities to make people aware of how they can help despite time or money restrictions
- Recruiting self-funding volunteers from around the world
- Providing and arranging the opportunity of short-term work in established conservation roles for paying volunteers (meaning no cost at all to the projects, because their funds are limited and need to be retained for purely conservation aims)
- Ensuring valuable, worthwhile work that develops the volunteer, the animals and the local community (a win-win-win situation!)
- The Bridge The Gap Foundation established in memory of Phil Perkes, Travellers Founder, provides valuable funding towards meaningful projects in conservation.

OUR USERS SAY...
"The staff were very friendly and it was a really pleasant environment to work in. I have kept in touch with them and am continuing to write for them here in England, and they are continuing to publish my work in South Africa. The placement has given me experience that would have been very difficult to arrange with a similar-sized publication here in the UK, particularly as I lack any background in journalism. Therefore, it has given me a foot in the door of an industry that would have been relatively inaccessible to me previously. I have now got the confidence that I can succeed in the profession and have already started freelance work for different publications in the UK, in addition to articles still being published in South Africa. Cape Town was a fabulous place to do this placement ..."

Qualifications: This placement would suit Conservation enthusiasts and animal lovers and people who want to make a real difference, want first-hand experience of a different culture and who have initiative. No qualifications or previous experience are necessary, just a good dose of enthusiasm!
