Teaching English/Work in Orphanage
Tibet
Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: All Year Round
Description:
No other part of the world has fascinated humanity longer than Tibet. Merely the name evokes an aura of awe and mystery. On the highest plateau of the world just beyond the mighty Himalayas, Tibet was inaccessible to the outside world until just a few years ago. Full of magic and mystery, Tibet is a truly amazing Buddhist kingdom. Amongst the natural beauty and amidst the bustle of sacred pilgrimages, travelers to Tibet embark upon an experience markedly unlike any other in the world. Global Crossroad's volunteer in Tibet program offers volunteers the rewarding volunteer abroad opportunities of teaching English or working in an orphanage in Tibet. In their free time, volunteers can explore the fantastic temples, stunning scenery, shrines, beautiful rural villages, and intriguing cultural atmosphere. Volunteers in Tibet will find themselves strolling through ancient forts, beautifully ornamented monasteries, Chorten (commemorative monuments), and striking landscapes. Volunteering in Tibet promises to be a once in a lifetime experience you will carry with you the rest of your life.
Highlights:
Just outside of the cultural capital of Lhasa and near the world-famous Potala place, Global Crossroad volunteers teach English to poor, destitute, and disabled children. Most of the time, volunteers in teaching projects work as instructors or assistant English teachers. However, our volunteer in Tibet program welcomes your participation and help in the school's extra-curricular activities, such as sports, games and other activities, or sanitation programs. Volunteers usually teach two to three hours a day for five days a week, working with children 6 to 13 years old.
Qualifications:
In our Teaching English in Tibet program, the school staff supports volunteers and helps them to understand the local curricula and teaching methods, and also helps to resolve communication barriers. Teach abroad in Tibet welcomes any English speakers regardless of their origin. Tibet has been isolated from the rest of the world for many years, so the English level of local students is poor. Therefore, English teaching in Tibet is truly a challenging and rewarding job which can make a difference in the lives of both students and teachers.
